Matt Pohlkamp

Well here I finally got the chance to put my self together and get the words out from the great riders that he is, a great Pro BMXer and also a great friend.

Full name please..Matthew James Pohlkamp

Where were you born and how old were you when you start BMX?

I was born in Cincinnati Ohio and I started racing when I was 11 yrs. Old.

How did you get in to it? Your first bike?

I got into BMX because of an older kid in my neighborhood.  I used to follow him around and we would ride and terrorize the neighborhood.  I went to the track with him one night and I haven’t stopped since.

Did you ever thought ride or get that far??

No, I never thought about being a pro.  I just kept racing, riding and having fun on my bike.

Who were your biggest inspirations?

My brothers and sisters have always been my biggest inspirations in life.

Did you play any other sports while in school??

Yes, I played all the sports when I was younger, but I really excelled in swimming as a young kid and through high school.

Why does Matt Pohlkamp have not been to much on world championships or any other international races in the past?

When I was on Schwinn they never put any emphasis on us going to the World races, so we never went. It’s not much of a good reason but that’s is why.

Now that you have been in Colombia, would you like to visit more countries in south America?

Absolutely.  I had a great time in Colombia last year.  Everything about it was great…. the track, the city …very beautiful.

Congratulation for your new ride In Kuwahara, what do you see now for the future? Goals, races, Worlds??

Thanks a lot I am very psyched on Kuwi coming back.  My goals haven’t change…I want to race every race as hard as I can and put my heart into it, and most of all have fun.

You rode awesome last weekend in Evansville; you were my pick to win the race, your comments about your training and the race?

Thanks for the vote of confidence…Yes I felt very good and had a great time.  The weather was very hot, so that was tough but it was a good weekend. My training is going great, I love training.

Been in Ohio a lot of people asked me about how do you do it with the winter, can you tell them how please??

I ride the indoor skateparks, Indy indoor track and sprints in the cold.  It’s possible to train in the cold you just have to prepare.

I Heard you are getting married pretty soon, your plans after the wedding, family, kids?

Yes, I am getting married September 17.  Jessica and I definitely want to start a family, but not for a few years.

Would I be invited?

I thought you were my best man! lol
